EPP President Wilfried Martens congratulated FIDESZ leader
Viktor Orban, who is also Vice-President of the EPP, for the
great success in the Hungarian local elections, where FIDESZ
scored a result of 52,62%, calculated on a nation-wide level.
FIDESZ won 18 out of 19 counties and
at least 16 out of 23 municipalities.

“The result shows that the Hungarian citizens
lost their confidence into the Prime Minister
and the governing coalition
– which comes as no surprise
after the Prime Minister admitted that
he had lied to the people just in order to win
the elections. The EPP is convinced that the
Prime Minister and his government should
step down in order to restore the confidence
into democracy again.
If this is the way in which politicians treat
the citizens who vote for them,
then they should go”,
EPP President Martens said.
